Each summer for the past two years, Nevin Sayre has wingfoiled around Martha’s Vineyard—and raised over a hundred thousand dollars for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. This year he’s doing what he calls his “crazy mission” again, so Paul and I decided to help out.
From 1988–2008, Nevin supported MVCS by organizing the annual Vineyard Windsurfing Challenge. In 2024 he completed the same course solo, on a wingfoil. Going it alone allows him to pick his day within a one month window, which this year opens August 10.
After following (and donating) the past two years Paul and I wanted to contribute in a more unique way, so in June we spent a gorgeous afternoon filming Nevin at play on his home waters. It was a chance to put my rusty video production and boat-driving skills to work, as well as a great opportunity to admire Nevin’s board tricks—and Paul’s on-the-water filming skills. One in four Vineyarders rely on Community Services for support, so we were happy to play a small part in helping to publicize this unique challenge. Last year Nevin completed the course in just under five hours, and I’ll definitely be watching the live tracker on whatever day he chooses.
