Calling all Cape Cod folks! Please join me for a free talk about “Finding The Heart of Hound,” the fourth and final lecture of Bourne Community Boating’s winter series. Books don’t just happen, and I’ll explain both the project’s initial spark and the 70 hours of interviews / two international adventures required to complete it.
When: Wednesday, May 6th at 6:00 p.m.
Where: Bridge View Grill on Trowbridge Road in Bourne, MA.

Looking back at the project’s early emails, I was surprised to realize that this book turned out even better than my original vision: thicker, deeper, lovelier. But even the biggest book can’t include everything, so I’m going to reveal three key pieces that didn’t make the cut.
Why that matters
Whether it’s a story created inside my head or a history like this dug out of memories and dusty folders, a book will only be interesting to others after my creativity is carefully channeled into a coherent story. That requires an endless series of choices . . . And what’s left out might be even more important than what ends up on each page.
At the time, my three-year journey from initial idea to finished book felt rather twisty-turny; in hindsight, it looks totally logical. Books don’t just happen—but on May 6, I’ll try to make it look like this one followed an inevitable and obvious path to completion. So even if you don’t live on the Cape, please join the fun on May 6th and help me “find” The Heart of Hound.
The lecture will take place downstairs from the Bridge View Grill. You are welcome to bring drinks and food from the restaurant, and there will be books available for purchase. There is no charge to attend; a $5 donation to Bourne Community Boating is suggested.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you in person next . . . Wednesday!
