More months ago than I’d really like to admit, a reader from overseas asked a simple question: How do I get a peek inside The Heart of Hound? After giving it way too much thought (is there an app to make the pages flip?), I went with the simplest approach: a PDF.

The sample is as unique as the book—and the boat that inspired both. It includes the Table of Contents, so you can get a taste for both the overall layout and the stories that fill up the other 300 pages. That’s followed by Chapter One, A Stormy Birth, which is a personal favorite. Flipping through, I’m so proud of what we created: intriguing historical photos that illustrate in-depth stories, plus a few sneak peeks at the modernized Hound still winning races today.
We all spend too much time staring at screens, and even the fanciest page-flip software can’t hope to mimic the weighty pleasure of holding a hefty book in your lap. But for those of you who are curious to “see” inside my biggest book, here you go. And thanks to that curious reader for sparking this idea, even if it took me too long to implement.
Before you click through to read the sample on The Heart of Hound page, thanks for the weekly opportunity to invade your inbox—and all the inspiration your comments provide. See you next Thursday!
Fun to read the sample, thanks! I think you should eventually publish the entire book on ISSUU once the physical run is exhausted. There are many people like me who would enjoy reading it, but not enough to purchase a physical book (sorry!), which seems to me just for people who have some skin in that game, not any reflection on the quality of the book. I have enough books in my life with only personal meaning that I don’t know what to do with and will eventually end up in the scrap bin after a round of Swedish Death Cleaning…
